5 High-Profile Celebrities Who Tested Positive for COVID-19

Who are some of the most popular people that have the coronavirus? With the novel pandemic infecting over 6 million people across the world, with cities being closed down, and families advised to shelter at home, the virus has also made its way into the world of politics, sport, film, and entertainment.

Let’s take a look at some of the most famous COVID-19 cases from around the world who have faced the new virus head-on and recovered safely.

#1 Boris Johnson

On March 27, Boris Johnson revealed that he had tested positive for COVID-19. He shared the news with a tweet and a video of him explaining he has mild symptoms such as a temperature and a persistent cough. He noted that he can and will work from home.

Then, he went on to thank the police, social care workers, teachers, DWP staff, volunteers, and the NHS for taking part in a national effort to protect people from the new pandemic.

On April 5th, Johnson was admitted into a hospital for testing due to his persisting coronavirus symptoms. He was moved to intensive care after his symptoms worsened. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of the NHS staff, the prime minister received excellent care, and he was ultimately discharged on April 12.

#2 Prince Charles

In a statement released on the 25th of March, Clarence House confirmed that the 71-year-old Prince Charles, heir to the throne, has been diagnosed with COVID-19.

A few days later, the Duke of Cornwall praised the NHS for all their efforts in a public video message. Since then, he has completed his period of isolation at Birkhall in Aberdeenshire. In one of his later messages, Prince Charles said: “As we are all learning, this is a strange, frustrating, and often distressing experience when the presence of family and friends is no longer possible and the normal structures of life are suddenly removed.”

"At such an unprecedented and anxious time in all our lives, my wife and I are thinking particularly of all those who have lost their loved ones in such very difficult and abnormal circumstances, and of those having to endure sickness, isolation and loneliness."

#3 Plácido Domingo

The world-renown opera singer made a Facebook post on March 22 with the message that it was his moral responsibility to announce he has the new coronavirus.

In the initial post, he shared that he and his family are self-isolation for as long as medical personnel recommended. He shared that all his family are in good health, but experienced fevers and cough symptoms and therefore decided to get tested just in case.

Plácido Domingo has been vocal about the necessity and obligation people have in slowing the spread of the virus. He was hospitalized due to his symptoms but responded well to his treatment, and he was back home and feeling fine by March 30th.

#4 Tom Hanks & Rita Walson

The couple likely contracted the novel coronavirus in the US or on their trip to Australia, according to Queensland Health officials.

Soon after sharing online that he tested positive, he sent a tweet out saying “I feel ok, I have no symptoms so far. No panic.”

Tom Hanks also said that he and his wife Rita Wilson were recovering after their positive diagnosis and that they were essentially symptom-free in as little as two weeks after contracting the virus.

He and his wife have also been very vocal on social media about the importance of social distancing and the social responsibilities people have toward each other in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

#5 Idris Elba and Sabrina Dhowre

The actor from The Dark Tower went public with his diagnosis and revealed that he had no symptoms. He urged his fans to stay home and be pragmatic about the situation.

Less than a week after his announcement, Sabrina Dhowre, Elba’s wife, shared that she also tested for the coronavirus after deciding not to quarantine away from her husband. She said that this was a tough decision, but she wanted to be close to her husband.

The family urged their audiences to take up global solidarity, maintain social distancing, and maintain excellent hygiene to combat the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
