Are N95 Masks Bad For The Environment?

One of the most commonly asked questions about N95 masks, surgical masks, and N95 respirators as well as all other personal protective equipment is whether they are bad for the environment.

To answer that question in the best and most straightforward manner, the answer is yes. Anything that is disposable and is meant for one time use only makes cost harm to the environment. The N95 masks, surgical masks, and N95 respirators as well as all other personal protective equipment, have always been focused mainly on providing personal protection for the individuals. How the individuals could address the problem and how individuals would ensure that they will provide the right kind of environmental protection when using N95 masks, surgical masks, and N95 respirators as well as all other personal protective equipment is another cause of concern.

The Reality We All Face

The reality that we all face is devastating but it is not without any cure. The main reason why individuals have been trying to get focused on the N95 masks, surgical masks, and N95 respirators as well as all other personal protective equipment is the fact that they need to get protection from it. There are already a lot of things that people have to face during this pandemic and one of these things is also the reality that the environment is slowly dying as we are continuously in a pandemic.

In a recent survey conducted by the Environmental group OceansAsia, they found a huge amount of surgical masks washing up on the shoreline. The founder of the group, Mr. Gary Stokes, said that We have found 70 discarded masks within 100 metres of the beach and an additional 30 masks when we returned a week later. Over time the team has seen the odd mask here and now, however, this time they were all along the high tide line and foreshore with new arrivals coming in on the current. When you suddenly have a population of seven million people wearing one to two masks per day the amount of trash generated is going to be substantial. The masks were not that old, some almost looked brand new meaning they were not in the water long.” This is just one finding, in one shoreline. What more should we expect from other shorelines?

The Harmful Products

Long before the pandemic, the world has already been problematic and facing the bigger problem of the harmful effects and the harmful problems that may be caused by the sheer use of plastics and of other personal protective equipment that are meant to be disposable.

The N95 masks, surgical masks, and N95 respirators as well as all other personal protective equipment are harmful. they are meant to provide a certain level of protection against harmful germs, bacteria, and viruses that may be present in the air. This is reality and this role is the specific role that these personal protective equipment place. Nothing more than this is to be expected.

Unfortunately, even with the problems that we have with the fact that we are in the middle of a pandemic and even with the reality that the pandemic may cost us harm, we must also not forget that there is an environment that means our protection. Being able to protect our environment and being able to do anything that we can for the kind of protection that you are important. The battle is no longer just about our protection however. The battle that we are facing now is focused not just on the dock protection but on the protection that we can give mother nature. After all, we are all probably going to leave prior to the pandemic but the reality is that there is someone that we need to protect further and that someone is mother nature.

What Can You Do?

Given the fact that the use of personal protective equipment may indeed cause harm to the environment, there is a need for us to step up. There is a need for us to look at the different things we can do in order to not just protect ourselves and our loved ones but to make sure that we protect mother nature.

Limit Your Trips Outside The House

One thing that you can do is to make sure that you limit your trips outside. When you limit your trips outside and you do not go out as often as you possibly can you are already doing your share in fighting The environmental problems that we are all facing. Your share in the battle is no longer just about personal protection but it is also about environmental protection.

Limit Your Exposure

You can also try to create a plan with your families where only one individual would go out at a time. This limits not just for exposure to the coronavirus but it also limits the fact that you have to use N95 masks, surgical masks, and N95 respirators as well as all other personal protective equipment.

Take Care Of Your Health

One thing that you can also do within the household is to take care of each other and your health. If you are not exposed to the virus and you do not go out there is a high possibility that you need to not have much use for personal protective equipment.

You Can Help The Environment

In your own little way, you can help the environment. You just have to find it in you to do anything that you can to get the right kind of protection that you need.
