Are there enough n95 masks for hospitals?

N95 respirator

A particulate filter that keeps an individual safe from injurious airborne particles like bacteria, infectious agents, viral infections, and dust, etc. is called the N95 respirator. The N95 respirator is effective at keeping an individual safe from injurious airborne particles. The N95 respirator keeps an individual safe from harmful diseases as well. Those harmful diseases include the novel coronavirus, the influenza virus, and other contagious diseases.

Furthermore, the N95 respirator has gone through NIOSH’s testing that tests the effectiveness of a product. Since the N95 respirator passed the tests, NIOSH has approved the N95 respirator; this also shows us that the N95 respirator is 95 percent effective to fight off the novel coronavirus. In addition to that, the N95 respirator is the safest Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when it comes to keeping an individual safe from injurious airborne particles.

In the United States of America, the scarcity of N95 respirators has put several nursing homes and healthcare facilities in jeopardy, which is an alarming situation for America! There is a nursing home in the United States where nursing homes had to reuse the N95 respirators for five consecutive days. A reused N95 respirator is not as effective at keeping an individual safe as a new N95 respirator.

Apart from the N95 respirators, there are several Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) like surgical masks, N95 respirators, eye protection, face shields, and hand sanitizers that are short in the United States because of the novel coronavirus. The novel coronavirus has been in the United States for the last six months, but the United States could not do anything with the shortage of such crucial PPE like the N95 respirators.

One of the journalists of the United States said that it is an embarrassing situation for the United States, and this shows the weakness of the healthcare infrastructure of the U.S. Because of the scarcity of N95 respirators in the United States, more than a hundred thousand people are getting infected by the novel coronavirus in the U.S. This is an alarming situation for the United States.

All of this happened due to the non-seriousness practiced by the former president of the United States, Donald Trump. He downplayed the severity of the virus when it came to the United States of America (USA). However, it gradually spread at an alarming rate, wreaking havoc in the primary states of the United States. As of 17th November 2020, there are more than eleven million COVID-19 cases in the United States.

The United States has become one of those countries that have been adversely affected by the novel coronavirus. Furthermore, the United States has had the most cases and deaths because of COVID-19 since it began. The primary reason for this catastrophe is the scarcity of N95 respirators. In addition to that, non-seriousness and ignorance are two reasons for the spread of this virus as well.

Because of the shortage, the public and healthcare professionals have started using N95 respirators that are non-disposable; this is because these N95 respirators can be reused after use. Decontamination of an N95 respirator means cleaning the bacteria on the N95 respirator. The N95 respirator filters out the bacteria after use. There are several methods to decontaminate N95 respirators.

Some methods should only be used by healthcare professionals since they have complex medical equipment at the healthcare facility. However, there is a method that the public can use to decontaminate an N95 respirator, and the name of that method is dry heat treatment. Such treatments do not require complex equipment for decontaminating N95 respirators, and they can be done by anyone.

The scarcity of N95 respirators in the healthcare facilities of the United States is an alarming situation for the nation. Healthcare professionals have to come in contact with the infected patient to treat them. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) like the N95 respirator keeps a healthcare professional safe from this fatal virus. While treating infected patients, healthcare professionals need to cover themselves with some sort of respiratory protective device.

If they do not wear the N95 respirator or other crucial PPE, they could end up getting themselves infected. Therefore, N95 respirators must be provided to the healthcare professionals who have been putting their lives on the line by treating such infected patients. These healthcare professionals include doctors, nurses, and physicians, etc. In addition to that, every healthcare facility, be it big or small should be given an equal amount of N95 respirators.

There have been several cases in the United States where the majority of N95 respirators are provided to the big healthcare facilities while the small healthcare facilities do not get any. Every healthcare facility is full of COVID-19 patients in the United States. Therefore, equal amounts of N95 respirators should be given to every healthcare facility.

Furthermore, it is crucial to provide N95 respirators to the healthcare facilities during COVID-19 to keep the healthcare providers safe as well. If something happens to the healthcare providers, imagine what would happen to the infected patients. Therefore, it is crucial to provide healthcare providers with N95 respirators.

Conclusion

No, the amount of N95 respirators at healthcare facilities is inadequate; this is because of the national shortage of N95 respirators in the United States. Therefore, inadequate PPE is a crucial reason why a lot of people have lost their lives because of the novel coronavirus in the United States of America (USA).
