There is a reason why a corporation like NIOSH has approved the use of N95 respirators. Therefore, N95 respirators are effective enough to combat the novel coronavirus. An additional filter like carbon filters does not come close to the effectiveness of the N95 respirator. The CDC had once said that carbon filters are not efficient at the filtration of airborne particles like pollen, pollutants, smoke, contaminants, bacteria, and infectious agents, etc. Therefore, N95 respirators do not have carbon filters.
