New research regarding n95 masks

N95 respirator

The N95 respirator is a particulate filter that keeps an individual safe by filtering out harmful airborne particles like pollutants, contaminants, mist, dust, and dirt, etc. The N95 respirator is ninety-five percent effective when it comes to the prevention of harmful airborne particles from entering an individual’s body. The N95 respirator is the safest Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) because it adequately protects the wearer from life-threatening diseases like cancer, lung disease, and cardiovascular diseases, etc.

Importance of N95 respirators

The N95 respirators perform better than other respirators because the N95 respirator is effective at filtering out airborne particles with a size of 0.3um. Airborne particles with a size of 0.3um can be filtered out with the N95 respirator, but no other respirator can filter out airborne particles whose size is small to this extent. The N95 respirator is a crucial Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Healthcare professionals use PPE to avoid getting infected by infectious agents.

New researches on N95 respirators by the CDC

Since the pandemic began, everyone has started wearing N95 respirators; this is because the higher healthcare departments and institutes had made it clear to the citizens to wear N95 respirators to prevent this fatal disease. Therefore, this led to an immense shortage of N95 respirators. At the start of the pandemic, a lot of things were not vivid to the public regarding the N95 respirators. Therefore, a lot of researches were done to clear some misconceptions about the N95 respirators. Recently, new research has been done on the N95 respirators.

When the pandemic began, the healthcare researchers said that the people, whose immune system was weak, should wear the N95 respirator. After a while, the healthcare researchers had said that the people, who had been infected by the novel coronavirus, should wear the N95 respirators so that they do not end up spreading the novel coronavirus among their near and dear ones. Recently, healthcare researchers said that it is crucial and fine for everyone to wear the N95 respirator.

The researchers concluded that respirators with multiple layers block around fifty to seventy percent of hazardous airborne particles and harmful droplets. Such respirators limit the spread of hazardous and contagious viruses like COVID-19. There are different types of respirators. Every respirator has a specific use, and not every respirator offers the same degree of protection. The N95 respirators, KN95 respirators, and cotton masks with multiple layers are the best respirators for filtering out harmful airborne particles.

The N95 respirator is the only respirator in the United States that blocks ninety-five percent of harmful airborne particles. However, not every N95 respirator has been manufactured to combat the novel coronavirus. The N95 respirators with a valve have not been manufactured to keep the wearer safe from COVID-19. Such N95 respirators have been manufactured to help those who cannot breathe probably. The N95 respirators with valves make it easy for the wearer to breathe. That is why such respirators have been manufactured.

The N95 respirators with valves adequately protect the wearer from harmful airborne particles, but they do not protect the people who are near or standing close to the wearer. COVID-19 spreads when an infected individual comes in contact with another person. Therefore, it has not been advised by the higher authorities to use N95 respirators with valves. If the wearer has been infected by COVID-19, he could spread the disease to the people who are near the wearer. This would not curb the spread of this lethal disease.

Therefore, it has been urged by the healthcare departments to wear N95 respirators without valves to suppress the spread of this fatal disease so that more people do not die or do not end up getting infected. A few experiments were conducted by the researchers to check the effectiveness of N95 respirators with valves when they are exposed to viral airborne particles. Such N95 respirators did protect the wearer, but the people, who were close to the wearer, ended up getting infected.

Therefore, N95 respirators with exhalation valves have not been urged by the healthcare researchers since the wearer could end up spreading the viral diseases among people who are near him or her. Hence, such N95 respirators should not be used as a respirator to combat COVID-19. The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) concluded that cloth masks with multiple layers and N95 respirators filter out around seventy percent of harmful and viral airborne particles.

The CDC says that according to our current information, COVID-19 spreads when an infected individual’s airborne particles are inhaled by another person. Therefore, N95 respirators with exhalation valves are not fine for protection against COVID-19. Hence, N95 respirators with valves do not help combat the novel coronavirus, and the best way to fight the novel coronavirus is by wearing N95 respirators without valves and tight facial fit.

Conclusion

The CDC has conducted research a few days ago, and they have said that it is fine for everyone to wear an N95 respirator or a multi-layer cloth mask during the novel coronavirus. An individual must wear the N95 respirators without exhalation valves. In addition to that, the N95 respirators should have a tight facial fit as well so that there is no space or leakage from where the harmful airborne particles get into an individual’s body or lungs through the nose.
