Notable N95 Mask Donations

Personal protective equipment is necessary in today’s pandemic driven life. Every person needs to have their own personal protective equipment (PPE) and make sure that they have N95 masks that are easily accessible and ready.

If you live in the US, you should know more about the organizations and individuals who have donated PPEs and N95 masks for the better chances of fighting the virus. These are the donations that resonate just how good man can be.

What Are The Important Donations To Be Made?

Healthcare facilities in the United States require personal protective equipment in the following forms:

N95 Respirators

N95 masks and N95 respirators are important. They are considered as the most important materials that provide protection for the users. Individuals who know how important N95 masks are know that they are the first line of defense for the frontliners. It is then necessary for donors to donate and give N95 respirators to the frontlines.

Disposable Face Masks

It is also necessary for hospitals and healthcare facilities to have face masks. Due to the lack of N95 respirators, some healthcare members decide to go for some disposable face masks. These masks also provide a certain level of protection for the user.

Face Shields And Goggles

The coronavirus may get in through the eyes as well. Hence, other than N95 masks. It is also important to have N95 respirators and face shields that cover the eyes and the nose and maybe even the whole face. It is necessary to have this kind of protection to prevent any respiratory splash and even blood splash. Medical frontliners know how important this one is for individuals.

Disinfection Wipes And Liquids

There is also the need for disinfection wipes and liquids. Individual frontliners should make sure that they have not only the N95 respirators and shields. Frontliners should also have disinfection wipes and liquids.

General Purpose Hand Cleaners

General purpose hand cleaners are important. For general cleaning and scrubbing, it is necessary for every medical frontliner to have this available always together with N95 masks.

Now that you know the important donations that individuals should know about, how about the donations? Who makes the donations of the N95 masks and all other PPE needs of the US?

Who Made The Most Notable Donations?

The following organizations made the most notable donations:

Direct Relief

One of the first donations that we have seen in the US is the donation done by Direct Relief. Direct Relief donated around 250,000 N95 masks and other personal protective equipment (PPE) that is needed by as many as 1,000 community health centers and free clinics all over the United States. Direct Relief donated this huge amount way back in March 2020.

Of course, Direct Relief did not make such a big donation on their own. Keep in mind that Direct Relief aimed to protect health care clinics registered under Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC). FQHC is the largest primary care system in the United States. They are currently serving more than 29 million U.S. residents.

In partnership with Direct Relief, the N95 masks, N95 respirators, and the like were delivered by FedEx. As part of their initiative FedEx Cares “Delivering for Good”, the 250,000 N95 masks were delivered. It is also worth noting that the Clorox Company Foundation donated $3 million and Verizon donated $2.5 million to support the efforts of Direct Relief.

Ronald Yee, MD, Chief Medical Officer of the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC), said that “Direct Relief has never rested for a moment to ensure the nation’s Community Health Centers are ready to respond to any disaster or any public health emergency”.

Even before the spike of the virus, Direct Relief had already donated more than 966,000 N95 masks, and other PPEs such as surgical masks. They have also given and donated more than 1.5 million gloves.

US Government Agencies

Federal agencies are also part of the battle. Together with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the U.S. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced that it is working to transfer an additional 22,000 pieces of excess personal protective equipment (PPE) to emergency and health professionals on the COVID-19 frontlines. The PPEs to be donated include N95 masks and N95 respirators.

If you are curious as to how the EPA is able to have and provide the 22,000 pieces of PPEs, including the N95 masks and N95 respirators, you should keep in mind that the EPA has a very specific mandate. As such, they have equipment available to address incidents including radiological, biological, and even oil spill emergencies.

There are also other N95 mask donors from both the private and the public sector. In order to prevent price gouging and hoarding, however, the purchase of individual N95 masks is limited.

Further, for Us hospitals and other medical facilities, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) is responsible for a whole list of accredited suppliers where bulk ordering can be made. This is one step towards the right direction.

Play Your Part

In the fight against the novel coronavirus, it is important that we all do our share. Make sure that you have only what you need in a time where everybody needs their own PPEs and N95 masks. Always keep in mind that you can never go wrong with choosing to do your part in the fight.
