Nursing homes in these states are still facing shortages of N95 masks

Since the pandemic began around the world, the United States of America (USA) is one of the countries that has suffered drastically because of COVID-19. The economy of the United States has been plummeting, and more lives are being taken because of this fatal pandemic, which is COVID-19. There are several states in the United States of America (USA) that are experiencing problems because of a lack of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Therefore, nursing homes in various states are suffering due to a lack of PPE available at these small healthcare facilities like nursing homes and physician offices. Such small healthcare facilities have so less PPE that healthcare workers at these facilities had to clean their N95 respirators after using them to reuse it again.

Since large healthcare facilities have money and contacts, they can easily purchase and keep N95 respirators in stocks for their employees and patients; this is because large healthcare facilities would not want to run out of N95 respirators as that would ruin the healthcare facility’s reputation. Therefore, they stock PPE in ample amounts to deal with the spread of COVID-19 and keep their employees and patients safe from it.

There are several states in the U.S. where small healthcare facilities like nursing homes do not have enough Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) like N95 respirators in large amounts for their employees and patients. One of these states is Texas where nursing homes have less amount of PPE for their staff. N95 respirators are essential to battle COVID-19 and keep an individual safe.

The N95 respirator is a particulate filter respirator that protects the person from inhaling harmful airborne particles. These airborne particles include mud, fog, smog, dust, bacteria, infectious agents, and viral diseases, etc. The N95 respirator is 95 percent efficient at filtering out harmful airborne particles like dust and dirt particles. What the N95 respirator does is it prevents the wearer from inhaling harmful airborne particles into their body through their nose; this is why N95 respirators cover an individual’s nose and mouth.

There are several reasons why the N95 respirators are safer than other masks and respirators. One of those reasons is that the N95 respirator has the capability of filtering out airborne particles that are smaller than 0.3um. Such airborne particles are caused after a person breathes or sneezes. The higher authorities and healthcare officials have said that the N95 respirator is the safest and the best Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for keeping an individual safe from COVID-19 and limiting the spread of this lethal disease.

Inhalation of such harmful airborne particles or breathing in such particles could cause lethal infectious diseases to a person. Therefore, wearing the N95 mask has been made compulsory during COVID-19 to protect yourself as well as others from contracting COVID-19 as this viral disease could adversely affect an individual's immune system and cause harmful diseases. Breathing in such airborne particles could weaken a person’s immune system as well.

This is why the N95 respirators are essential. A report has come out which shows that 12.7 percent of Texas nursing homes have less PPE for their health facility in which 10.9% of the nursing homes do not have PPE like N95 respirators at all; this is why nursing homes have run out of N95 respirators or do not have N95 respirators at all. More than a quarter of the deaths happened at nursing homes due to COVID-19.

This is because healthcare providers like doctors and nurses did not have N95 respirators at all. As they did not have N95 respirators, they would not come in contact with the infected patients because of fear of contracting the lethal disease, which is COVID-19; this is why some of the infected patients were left untreated or were not treated carefully; this led to an increase in COVID-19 cases and deaths. Therefore, deaths and cases increased as a result of a lack of PPE.

This is the reason why Personal Protective Equipment like N95 masks is necessary. Michigan is also one of the states where Personal Protective Equipment like N95 masks is in short supply. There is a healthcare corporation that goes by the name of Ascension in Michigan where N95 masks are short in supply in 16 hospitals.

However, some healthcare facilities in Michigan do have the right amount of N95 respirators and gloves in stock. Michigan Medicine has ample proportions of N95 respirators for the healthcare workers at the healthcare facility. The facility has reported that they have enough PPE for up to 21 days. People that work at Michigan medicine say that they have an adequate supply of N95 masks for the patients and employees.

Michigan is one of the states that has suffered from COVID-19 the most. In Michigan, some healthcare facilities have N95 respirators in ample proportions and some of them do not have any. Similarly, California is suffering from this. Some healthcare facilities have got N95 masks in stock while some of them do not have N95 respirators in stock.

Conclusion

Michigan, Texas, and California are the states where nursing homes have suffered from COVID-19 the most; this is because less amount of PPE was given to the healthcare providers, and this is why the majority of the people lose their lives as a result of COVID-19. Big healthcare facilities have received more N95 respirators while small healthcare facilities have not been given much PPE for protection.
