The N95 respirator is a mask or a face piece that filters out hazardous and jeopardizing airborne particles that cause harm to one’s body, nose, and lungs; these airborne particles include pollutants, contaminants, dust, dirt, mist, and other hazardous particles that could pose a threat to a person’s health. N95 respirators have been significant during COVID-19 (a viral disease) and wildfires as they protect the wearer from inhaling pollutants, smoke, and contaminants during the wildfires; and from inhaling infectious and viral agents during COVID-19.

An expired particle is a hazardous particle that might pose a threat to an individual’s health. These particles include pollutants, smoke, dust, infectious agents, dirt, mud, mist, and a plethora of other harmful particles. The N95 respirators are quite effective at filtering out 95% of such health-detrimental particles. There have been a lot of laboratory tests done by major institutes around the world to determine the effectiveness of N95 respirators at filtering out 95% of health-detrimental airborne particles.

Laboratory tests conducted by researchers at UC Davis have shown that the N95 respirators do filter out the amount of expired and health detrimental particles, droplets caused after sneezing and coughing, etc. 

As COVID-19 has been wreaking havoc across different countries around the world, the use of N95 respirators has been made compulsory by the government everywhere. As it protects the wearer from inhaling hazardous airborne particles, everyone’s buying the N95 respirators. The N95 respirator supply has fallen short because of a huge demand for them. In certain countries, the N95 respirators are so short that the government had to urge their locals to clean their respirators after using them as disposing of them would put the N95 respirators to waste.

The purpose of wearing the N95 respirators is to curb the increase in COVID-19 cases during 2020. In some countries, wildfires were anticipated to spread. The N95 respirator showed its significance during that time as well. Because of wildfires, it prevented the user from inhaling contaminants, pollutants, dust, dirt, smoke, and other infectious or health-detrimental particles.

An experiment was conducted by several researchers to determine the flow of airborne particles. It showed that talking gave off more airborne particles than breathing did. The candidate who was breathing forcibly gave off different numbers of airborne particles. In all the cases, the N95 respirator blocked the airborne particles from entering into an individual’s body, which proves that the N95 respirators are quite efficient when it comes to filtration of hazardous airborne particles.

This shows that N95 respirators are quite significant and effective at blocking and filtering out harmful airborne particles. This is the primary reason why the governments of different countries had urged their citizens to wear N95 respirators. If the precautionary measures of wearing N95 respirators were told before by the government, the COVID-19 would have been finished across the majority of the world.

For example, the United States government, specifically Donald Trump downplayed the severity of COVID-19 by saying that it is just like normal flu or it is normal flu. If he had made the use of N95 respirators public, the normal public would have listened to him and the situation of the United States would not be here. He would do the contrary, which resulted in massive devastation and catastrophe.

Significance and effectiveness of N95 respirators

If a person, who has been infected by COVID-19, comes in contact with another person without knowing about his infection, he will breathe in the virus; which will significantly increase COVID-19 cases. Hence, N95 respirators are quite useful at eliminating this endangering threat. As it has been shown that N95 respirators are quite effective at eliminating hazardous airborne particles, individuals must wear N95 respirators to keep themselves as well as their families protected.  This is the only way to curb COVID-19 cases and to finish this pandemic once and for all!

The N95 respirators were proved quite effective against the hazardous smoke that had arisen as a result of the wildfires. California had urged their locals to wear N95 respirators to keep themselves safe because hazardous smoke causes a plethora of diseases like cardiovascular diseases, heart diseases, and lung cancer as well! Hence, the N95 respirators have been proved quite effective during those circumstances as well.
