Which countries are furthest ahead in the hunt to find a COVID vaccine?
COVID-19 is an infectious disease that spreads when an infected person’s droplets, caused by talking or sneezing, come in contact with another individual. People infected by COVID-19 usually require no treatment at all. The fatality rate of this infectious disease is between 3 to 4 percent. People in the age bracket of 50 to 70 are the ones who are most vulnerable to this infectious disease.
There is no vaccine of COVID-19 available in the market. Speculators and some dignified personalities around the world have anticipated and predicted that the vaccine of COVID-19 will be available in 18 to 24 months around the world.
This virus broke out in Wuhan, China, and it began to spread in different countries across the world. The outbreak of the virus was declared a pandemic in March 2020. As of October, there have been more than 35 million reported cases of COVID-19, and the death toll has surged to more than 1 million. The common symptoms of COVID-19 include cough, fever, tiredness, and breathing difficulties. If you are standing close to an infected individual, you can get infected by breathing in the virus.
COVID-19 has caused devastation around the world. Various businesses have flopped, the economy is plummeting in various countries, and people are dying at a drastic rate. A plethora of countries have closed their schools, colleges, and universities and encouraged their locals to wear masks (in many cases, specifically N95 masks) and maintain social distance to suppress the rapid spread of the disease.
The only way to combat COVID-19 at the moment is to strengthen your immune system. Eating fruits, green vegetables, and eggs can strengthen your immune system.
Although COVID-19 has caused a million deaths and infected millions of people, some people are not following their government’s orders, which are to wear masks, maintain social distance, and quarantine oneself at home. These are the people who are the main reason for spreading this fatal virus. Certain countries ignored the fatality of the virus and downplayed its fatality, and those countries now have got the most reported cases and deaths as of October 2020.
How the world has changed due to COVID-19?
COVID-19 has largely affected the world. Everything has changed; the way we interact, the way we communicate, and the way we work, everything! Schools, colleges, and universities are conducting online classes now to protect their students and to suppress the massive spike in COVID-19 cases. Everyone is wearing masks, maintaining social distance, and using hand sanitizers to keep themselves clean and free of bacteria.
Since the economy has plummeted, millions of businesses around the world have flopped, and millions of people around the world have lost their jobs. Families are devastated due to the economic crisis in some poor or third world countries. The country, who will come up with the vaccine of COVID-19, will be the next economic power of the world as that country will sell the vaccine to other countries of the world to finish this fatal pandemic once and for all.
Countries researching a COVID-19 vaccine:
The reason why the world has not been able to treat the infected individual yet is that there is no vaccine available of COVID-19 in the supermarket. Since there is no vaccine available in the market, countries are struggling financially, and people are afraid to get out of their homes and hang out with their friends. Countries had to close down their educational institutes to protect children. Educational institutes could not conduct exams as well.
Vaccines alert the immune system and prepare it to suppress the magnitude of the virus or a disease in a person’s body. As there is no vaccine available of COVID-19, countries are in a state of major economic and existential crisis. Things will not go the same way they were until there is a vaccine available for the masses. COVID-19 has adversely affected the world.
Businesses have crippled, people have died, and millions of people lost their jobs. Several countries are doing vaccine trials of COVID-19. These countries include China, the USA, the United Kingdom, Russia, and Germany.
The majority of these vaccines are being developed by research groups and firms in the USA and China. So China and the USA are the countries that are furthest ahead in the hunt to find a COVID-19 vaccine. Johnson & Johnson, Moderna, and Novovax are some companies from the U.S. that are researching on a potential COVID-19 vaccine. In March 2020, Moderna Inc. started the first vaccine trial in Seattle. The company is now doing thousands of clinical trials on participants.
CanSino, Sinpharm (Beijing), Sinppharm (Wuhan), and Sinovac are some Chinese companies that are doing research on a COVID-19 vaccine. Beijing has already approved a vaccine for limited use in China. In addition to that, Gamaleya is a Russian medical institute that is researching on a vaccine. Russia also approved a vaccine after doing vaccine trials on less than a hundred people.
Curevac, a German company, is doing vaccine trials on people, and Murdoch Children’s, an Australian company, is also doing vaccine trials on people. AstraZeneca, a British Swedish pharmaceutical company, is doing vaccine trials in several countries like China, the USA, India, U.K, Brazil, and South Africa. But their vaccine trials were paused after a participant faced serious reactions in early September. Since then, they have resumed their trials in Brazil and the U.S.
Hence, the United States and China are the only countries that are further than other countries when it comes to finding a COVID vaccine.
